Club visit to Carrosserie, Barnard Castle, May 2012

A very pleasant hour or so was spent in the company of one of the partners of the business, Dick Francis.

Dick took us around and introduced us to everything from an everyday run about of an MGB to one of only five Lea Francis in the world.

Read on for more on the Carrosserie visit

Tour of Hamsterley

A fair turn out on a windy and cold day in what must have been one of the most exposed locations for a control the club have had to do.

Pirelli International/Tour of Cumbria/Pirelli Historic/Pirelli Challenge/Land Rovers Rally - April 2012

Thanks to all those who turned up to help run the start/arrival controls for Archys Rigg.

Yet another quality Hadrian Product, in the words of one Mr Jackson.

Charlie reports that he, Graham Lamb and Graham Nichol had a "fun" if a bit busy day setting out the timing gear with Vaughan Alcock.
The day started when the alarms sounded at 03:45 and finished around 23:00 after having a beer or two at the Twice Brewed.

Border Counties 2012

After the damp Friday before which was a test day close to the Pennine Way and Forest Drive in Kielder, Saturday dawned bright and sunny which is always a blessing for the marshals.

Quinton Stages Rally, July 2011

Builth Wells, Mid Wales.
Gareth Vickers (HMC member)/Martyn Vickers.
Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti (205 challenge spec)

Things didn’t get off to best of starts for this event, the alternator packed in on the tow vehicle on the way down and we only just made it to the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells for scrutineering! The 205 didn’t let us down though and sailed through scrutineering and we once again camped at the scrutineering venue to save some pennies. The failure of the mighty Hilux Surf meant we would be using Martyn’s Alfa 137 (Ed - 137?) for management service duties which was far from ideal.

Plains Rally, May 2011

Welshpool, Mid Wales.
Gareth Vickers (HMC member)/Martyn Vickers.
Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti (205 challenge spec)

This was our first event since October 2009 and as such the aim for the event was to take it steady and build up the speed as the event went on, sadly plans to start the year on the Mid-Wales stages in March had to be abandoned due to a broken wrist sustained while playing football! Once again my elder brother Martyn had agreed to sit along side in the silly seat, no doubt trying to loose his nickname of ‘sensible Martyn’.

Cambrian Rally, October 2011

Llandudno, North Wales.
Gareth Vickers (HMC member)/Martyn Vickers.
Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti (205 challenge spec)

If you have read my previous rally reports you may be wondering why a member of a North East motor club competes on rallies in Wales, this is due to the fact that I am originally from North Wales and the rally car is still based down there. The Cambrian rally is my ‘home’ rally with the headquarters of the event only 15 minutes down the road from my home town. Previous to this event I had competed on the event on 3 occasions so it is the event I know best.

Woodpecker Stages Rally, September 2011

Ludlow, Shropshire.
Gareth Vickers (HMC member)/Martyn Vickers.
Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti (205 challenge spec)

Having spectated on this event a number of times I was very excited to finally put an entry in. The rally was based at Ludlow horse racing course which made a good camping venue, once again there was no issues at scrutineering so we headed off into the sprolling metropolis that is Ludlow for some food and beer.

Countdown Navigational Rally, September 2011

Carlisle, Cumbria

The Countdown is Spadeadam Motor Club’s annual road rally and uses some cracking roads over in Cumbria. The event has always been a challenge for the navigators mainly, but this year was to prove a challenge for both crew members. Hadrian were well represented with David and Shiela Ross in their 205, Ian Guthrie and Charlie Tynan in the big Volvo, John Lawson and Richard Todd in a Proton, and myself in with Alex Willan in yet another proton. The event as usual started and finished at the Carlisle Truck Stop, with the first car out at 10.30pm.

Shaw Trophy Rally, July 2011

Matfen, Northumberland

The second running of the Shaw trophy as a historic day time event resulted in a late entry for me alongside Archie Simmons in his MG Midget. With the start and finish venue being at High House Farm Brewery near Matfen, for once it was just a ten minute drive to the start for me.

1000 Puddles Rally, April 2011

Northumberland

John Robson Rally, November 2011

Humshaugh, Northumberland

The route took crews south west of Humshaugh before heading up the A68 for a quick trip round Ryal and along to Chollerton via Errington. Back onto the A68, we found the Stockle, Reiner Senior and Junior at the entrance to Barrasford Quarry. This was followed by several sections towards Wark then over the moor north of Birtley, no, not the County Durham one.
